Why people use this tool

For Anu wedding cards, pamphlets and books whose Telugu now has to go on WhatsApp, Facebook or a website.

Vattulu put back together

Anu types a subscript after its letter and the ్ర piece before it. Each is moved to its Unicode place, so ప్ర and స్త్రీ come out whole.

Letters drawn in pieces

Anu draws మ as వ with a hook, and ై as ె plus a length mark. They come out as the real Unicode letters.

Ready for Photoshop and the web

Unicode Telugu works in a Photoshop text layer, on Facebook and in WhatsApp. Nobody at the other end needs an Anu font.

Stays in your browser

The conversion runs on your device. Your text is not uploaded to our server.

English left alone

Words in English, numbers and email addresses are kept as they are. Only the old-font text is changed.

Words to check are marked

If a word does not look like a real word after conversion, it is underlined so you can check it.

HOW IT WORKS

How to convert Anu to Unicode

Four steps, all of them in your browser. Nothing to install and no account.

01

Copy the Anu text.

Open the PageMaker or Word file, or its PDF, and copy the Telugu set in Priyaanka, Gowthami or another Anu font.

02

Paste it on the left.

The Unicode Telugu appears on the right as you paste. A gap a PDF left before a vowel sign or vattu is closed up.

03

Check the marked words.

An underlined word has a vattu or letter worth a second look. Compare it with the printed card or page.

04

Copy, share or download.

Paste into WhatsApp or a Photoshop text layer, share it from a phone, or take the Word file with Gautami set.

What's kept, and what to check

The text comes across as it was typed. A few things are worth a look before you use it.

What's kept

What comes across as it was

Line breaks.

Each line of a card or pamphlet stays on its own line.

English words and numbers.

Words such as Hyderabad or office, and numbers like 98480 12345, are left as typed.

Digits.

Anu fonts draw 0–9 as English digits, so they stay 0–9. Switch off Keep 0–9 as English digits to get ౦–౯.

Check before use

Check these before the customer sees it

Names on cards.

Check names and addresses letter by letter against the printed original.

Short English labels.

In pasted plain text, a label such as Ph, Tel or Mob can be read as Anu keys and turn into Telugu. It is marked when a colon and a number follow (Ph: 98480). Retype any that turn.

Most words marked.

The file may come from a later Anu release that this page does not read yet. Check it against the original before using any of it.

Gautami or Nirmala UI shows it on Windows, and phones show Telugu without any setup. We don't supply Anu fonts, and nobody needs them to read the result.

TRICKY LETTERS

Tricky letters we test

Conjuncts and vowel signs that Anu builds from pieces. Every row here comes from this page's own converter, run at build time.

Anu keysㄬ*ìUnicodeప్రజాã is the ్ర piece, drawn to the left of the letter, so it is typed before „¬. In Unicode it goes after ప.
Anu keysã‹ÔëUnicodeస్త్రీThree parts: ã is ్ర, ‹Ô is సీ and ë is the త subscript. The ీ typed on స has to move to the end, after త and ర.
Anu keysHê~¡¼ãH›=°O…ÕUnicodeకార్యక్రమంలో¼ after ~¡ is a య subscript, so ర plus the small stroke becomes ర్య. The next ã is another ్ర, for క్ర.
Anu keysH›Æq°OKÇO_Unicodeక్షమించండిÆ after క is a ష subscript, giving క్ష. Then q alone is వి, and the hook ° turns it into మి.
Anu keys*ìý#OUnicodeజ్ఞానం*ì is జా, but in Unicode the ా comes after the ఞ subscript ý, so it moves one place right.
Anu keysZ`ǰëUnicodeఎత్తుThe ు is typed on the first త, before the ë subscript. Unicode wants it after the second త, as in త్తు.
Anu keys‹¬iHù`ÇëQêUnicodeసరికొత్తగాHù is కొ in one shape and must come out as one ొ, not two signs. i is రి on a single key.
Anu keys=¶ã`Ç"ͰUnicodeమాత్రమే= alone is వ, but =¶ is మా: Anu draws మ as వ with a hook. "Ͱ is మే the same way.
Anu keysÌ‹á`ÇOUnicodeసైతంÌ is the ె half, typed before స. á after the letter adds the length mark, and the two make one ై.
QUESTIONS

Questions

Answers to common questions about Anu to Unicode.

Why does my Anu text look like symbols on another computer?

The file stores English key codes, and only the Anu font turns them into Telugu shapes. Where that font is missing you see the codes, so a wedding card turns into accented letters and marks. Unicode stores the Telugu letters themselves, so they read on any phone or PC.

Does it matter which Anu font the text was typed in?

Not for the faces tested here. Priyaanka, Gowthami, Pallavi and Prabhava put each letter on the same key, and all of them convert on this page. If nearly every word comes out marked, the file may come from a later Anu release that this page does not read yet.

Is Anu script to Unicode the same as Anu to Unicode?

Yes. People say Anu script, Anu fonts or Anu Script Manager for the same Telugu text. If it was typed in an Anu face, it converts here.

Which Unicode Telugu font should I use?

Nirmala UI comes with Windows. Gautami arrives when you add Windows' Telugu fonts in Settings, and phones have their own Telugu font. For a printed design, pick any Unicode Telugu font in Photoshop and turn on the World-Ready composer.

Can I convert text from an Anu PDF?

Yes, if you can select its words. Copy them out of the PDF and paste them here. A space the PDF put before a vowel sign or vattu is closed up, and a line under the result counts the joined words. A word split between two whole letters stays apart, so read the result once.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The Anu font to Unicode conversion runs on your own computer or phone, and the text never reaches our server.
