Indian Font Converters

Each Indian font converter here moves text typed in an old font, such as Kruti Dev or Bamini, into Unicode or back again. The pages are grouped by script, with the language page first, and the conversion runs in your browser.

FONTS

Which font is my text in?

Old fonts give themselves away the moment the font is missing.

Text typed in an old font is stored as Latin letters and symbols. The font only draws them as Hindi, Tamil or Bangla shapes.

So if your text turns into a jumble of English letters on a phone, in Google Docs or on WhatsApp, it was typed in an old font. Unicode text stays readable whichever font shows it.

Paste a line into the language page for your script. It reads the jumble, names the font, and converts it.

QUESTIONS

Font converter questions

What does an Indian font converter do?

It turns text typed in an old, non-Unicode font into Unicode, which phones, websites and e-office read. It also goes the other way, when a layout or template still needs the old font.

Is a Unicode font converter the same thing?

Yes, it is another name for the same job. Each page here is set to one old font and one direction; the language pages take text in any of the fonts they know.

Why does my Hindi text turn into English letters on WhatsApp?

The file holds Latin letters, and only the old font drew them as Hindi. A phone without that font shows the letters as they are. Convert the text to Unicode before you send it.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Every converter on this page works inside your browser tab, so the text stays on your device.
