Why people use this tool

For SutonnyMJ books, notices and question papers that now have to go online.

Reads on every phone

Unicode Bangla shows on Facebook, in email and on websites. Nobody needs SutonnyMJ installed to read it.

Table columns kept

A table copied from a Bijoy Word file arrives with tabs between cells. Copy as table rebuilds it in Unicode.

PDF text joined up

Text copied from a Bijoy PDF comes with gaps inside words. Those gaps are closed before converting.

Stays in your browser

The conversion runs on your device. Your text is not uploaded to our server.

English left alone

Words in English, numbers and email addresses are kept as they are. Only the old-font text is changed.

Words to check are marked

If a word does not look like a real word after conversion, it is underlined so you can check it.

HOW IT WORKS

How to convert Bijoy to Unicode

Four steps, all of them in your browser. Nothing to install and no account.

01

Paste the Bijoy text.

Open the old file in Word or a PDF reader, select the Bangla and paste it on the left.

02

Check the marked words.

Underlined words are conjuncts or names worth a second look. Compare them with the original.

03

Copy or download.

Copy the result, or take the Word download with Nirmala UI set on every Bangla line for the office.

04

Use it anywhere.

Paste into Facebook, email or a government form. It reads without any special font. A press that still wants SutonnyMJ? Turn Unicode Bangla into Bijoy.

What's kept, and what to check

The text comes across as it was typed. A few things are worth a look before you use it.

What's kept

What comes across as it was

Tabs and line breaks.

Each line stays a line, and cells pasted from a table stay in their columns.

English and numbers.

Roll numbers, dates and English names in Times New Roman or Arial are left alone.

Numbers as they printed.

SutonnyMJ draws its 0–9 keys as ০–৯, so they come out as Bangla digits. Turn on Keep 0–9 as English digits for 2024.

Joined letters.

আ, ো and ৌ come out as single Unicode letters, not in pieces.

Check before use

Check these before you post or submit

Marked conjuncts.

Look again at underlined words such as শ্রুতি or প্লাবন.

Names and numbers.

Check names, roll numbers and dates against the original before a form goes in.

English in a plain paste.

Text pasted without its fonts can turn English words and short codes like pH into Bangla. Check each one against the original.

Nikosh, the Bangladesh government's Unicode font, shows it, as do Vrinda and Nirmala UI. Your reader needs no special font.

TRICKY LETTERS

Tricky letters we test

The conjuncts people say other Bijoy converters get wrong. This page ran each one when the site was built.

Bijoy keysiægvjUnicodeরুমালæ is the u-sign drawn after র. It has to join i as one রু, not stand as a symbol.
Bijoy keysAšÍUnicodeঅন্তš then Í must be rebuilt as ন, hasanta, ত. Unicode needs the hasanta that Bijoy never types.
Bijoy keyswbgœUnicodeনিম্নThe file types w before b (ন), but Unicode puts ি after it. The subscript œ becomes hasanta plus ন after ম.
Bijoy keysAvjøvnUnicodeআল্লাহA and v join into one আ, and jø is read back as ল, hasanta, ল.
Bijoy keyscøvebUnicodeপ্লাবনø after c means a ল joined under প, so a hasanta goes between them in Unicode.
Bijoy keysev¯ÍeUnicodeবাস্তব¯ is a half স with no letter of its own. With Í after it, it becomes স্ত.
Bijoy keysMøvmUnicodeগ্লাসCapital M is গ, not an English M. The ø after it turns it into গ্ল.
Bijoy keyskÖæwZUnicodeশ্রুতিkÖæ has three parts: শ, ra-phala and the u-sign. Then w before Z moves after ত as ি.
Bijoy keyswkÿvUnicodeশিক্ষাÿ on its own becomes three Unicode characters, ক, hasanta and ষ. Older files type the same letter on a second key, which reads the same way.
Bijoy keysDrme †_‡KUnicodeউৎসব থেকেr is ৎ, not the English letter. Next to থেকে it reads as Bangla; উৎসব alone would be marked as maybe English.
QUESTIONS

Questions

Answers to common questions about Bijoy to Unicode.

Why does my Bijoy text show as English letters?

Bijoy fonts such as SutonnyMJ draw Bangla on English keys. A phone or computer without the font shows the keys, so বাংলা appears as evsjv. Unicode stores the Bangla letters themselves.

Is Bijoy to Avro the same as Bijoy to Unicode?

Yes. Avro types Unicode Bangla, so converting Bijoy to Unicode gives you text that opens and edits in Avro.

Does SutonnyMJ to Unicode work here?

Yes. SutonnyMJ is a Bijoy font, and its text converts on this page. Check the marked words if your file used a different Bijoy font.

My Bijoy notice has a table. Will it survive?

Copy the table from Word and paste it here. Tabs keep the cells apart through the conversion. Then use Copy as table, and Word or Excel gets the rows and columns back.

I copied text from a PDF and it looks like symbols. What now?

If it looks like evsjv with gaps inside words, paste it here as it is. The gaps are joined up before converting, and a line under the result says how many words were joined.

Does my old file leave my computer?

No. Your browser converts the Bijoy text on your own phone or computer. None of it is sent to our server.
