Marathi Font Converter
This Marathi font converter spots the font itself. Old notices and question papers in Shree Lipi, Akruti or Kruti Dev become Unicode, and Unicode Marathi goes back into Shree Lipi for a print layout, with the eyelash ra kept.

Why people use this tool
For a Marathi office or print shop whose files came from different DTP shops over the years, and layouts that still run on Shree Lipi.
Archives from many shops
One file was set in Shree Lipi, the next in Akruti, a third typed in Kruti Dev. Paste each one and its font is found for you.
Back to Shree Lipi for print
Unicode Marathi from a phone or a portal becomes Shree Lipi text, with an .rtf download for CorelDraw and InDesign.
Eyelash ra and ळ kept
सार्या keeps its eyelash ra on the way into Shree Lipi or Akruti. ळ, क्ष and ज्ञ survive the trip in both directions.
Stays in your browser
The conversion runs on your device. Your text is not uploaded to our server.
English left alone
Words in English, numbers and email addresses are kept as they are. Only the old-font text is changed.
Words to check are marked
If a word does not look like a real word after conversion, it is underlined so you can check it.
How to convert a Marathi font
Four steps, all of them in your browser. Nothing to install and no account.
Paste the Marathi text.
Copy it from the old file, from a PDF whose text you can select, or from the message you were sent.
Check the detected font.
Its name shows under the text box. If you know the file used another font, pick it under From.
Choose the result font.
Unicode for WhatsApp, websites and e-office. Shree Lipi, Akruti or Kruti Dev when an old layout needs it.
Copy or download.
Shree Lipi and Akruti come as an .rtf that CorelDraw and InDesign open with the font set. Unicode and Kruti Dev come as a Word file.
What's kept, and what to check
The text comes across as it was typed. A few things are worth a look before you use it.
What's kept
What stays the same
Paragraphs and tabs.
Line breaks and tab stops stay where they were typed.
Marathi letters.
ळ, the eyelash ra and conjuncts such as क्ष, ज्ञ and द्य, whichever way you convert.
English and numbers.
A name like PMC or a phone number stays as typed. Digits follow the digits switch.
Check before use
Before you use it
The detected font.
A few words can fit two fonts. When the page asks, or the result reads wrong, set the font under From.
Kruti Dev and the eyelash ra.
Kruti Dev 010 has no eyelash ra, so a word like सार्या is marked when you convert into it.
Digits in the old font.
Shree-Dev and AkrutiDev faces type ०–९ from the number keys, so a question paper's १, २, ३ stay Marathi digits here. For a face that draws 0–9, set the switch to English.
We don't supply Shree Lipi, Akruti or Kruti Dev. The old font must be installed where you open the result; until then, How it will look shows the Marathi.
Tricky letters we test
The letters Marathi users check first, in each old font this page reads, converted here when the site was built.
| Font | Old-font keys | Unicode | What makes it hard |
|---|---|---|---|
| FontShree Lipi | Old-font keysgmè¶m | Unicodeसार्या | è is the whole eyelash ra. This page writes it as र, a virama and a zero-width joiner, and turns the one-letter eyelash ra that phones type back into the same è. |
| FontShree Lipi | Old-font keysemioMr doi | Unicodeशाळेची वेळ | Shree Lipi keeps ळ on i, a key English uses all the time. With M for च and o for the e-sign around it, the converter still reads the phrase as Marathi. |
| FontShree Lipi | Old-font keysjoÌ | Unicodeक्षेत्र | Three codes carry seven Unicode characters. Ì alone stands for त, a virama and र. |
| FontShree Lipi | Old-font keyskmZ | Unicodeज्ञान | k is a plain English letter but ज्ञ here. Marathi says it as dnya, yet Unicode spells it ज, virama, ञ, and that is what comes out. |
| FontShree Lipi | Old-font keys{dÚmb¶ | Unicodeविद्यालय | The short i { is typed first because it is drawn first. Unicode stores it after व, and Ú opens up into द, virama and य. |
| FontAkruti | Old-font keyskeÀjCeeN³ee | Unicodeकरणार्या | Akruti has its own eyelash ra, capital N, seen here in a real board report. À after ke is the hook that finishes क. |
| FontAkruti | Old-font keysMeeUsle | Unicodeशाळेत | Akruti draws most letters as a body plus the stem e, and one more e is the ा. ळ has no stem: it is the single code U. |
| FontKruti Dev 010 | Old-font keys'kkGk | Unicodeशाळा | Kruti Dev keeps ळ on capital G, a key Hindi text rarely needs, so it turns up mostly in Marathi files. |
| FontKruti Dev 010 | Old-font keys{ks= | Unicodeक्षेत्र | Both conjuncts sit on symbol keys: { is a half क्ष that the k after it completes, and = is त्र. Pasted into an email, the word looks like code. |
Questions
Answers to common questions about Marathi Font Converter.
Which Marathi fonts can it convert?
Shree Lipi (the SHREE-DEV and ITRFK faces), Akruti (the AkrutiDev faces), Kruti Dev 010 and Unicode. A font is added only after it reads real Marathi files correctly. AkrutiOffice fonts put other letters on the keys and are not covered yet.
Can I convert Akruti to Unicode?
Yes. Paste text from a file set in an AkrutiDev face, such as AkrutiDevPriya, and the page reads it as Akruti. Akruti to Unicode needs no other setting. Words full of e and ee, like cejeþer for मराठी, usually mean Akruti.
How do I get Unicode Marathi into a Shree Lipi layout?
Paste the Unicode and set To to Shree Lipi. For Unicode to Shree Lipi in print, download the .rtf and import it into CorelDraw or InDesign, where the font arrives already set. For a short line, copy the result into the layout and set your Shree-Dev face on it.
Why does सार्या turn into सार्या in other converters?
Unicode spells the eyelash ra with a hidden joiner after र्, and some converters throw the joiner away. This Marathi font converter writes the eyelash ra glyph of Shree Lipi or Akruti instead, and a phone's ऱ्या gets the same glyph. Kruti Dev 010 has no such glyph, so there the word is marked for you.
Isn't a Marathi font change in Word enough?
No. Setting Shree Lipi or Kruti Dev text to Mangal shows Latin letters and symbols, because each Marathi letter is stored on an English key code. The codes themselves have to change, and that is the job of this page. After that, any Unicode font can show the Marathi.
Does the text I paste leave my computer?
No. The fonts are worked out and the text is converted in your browser. A draft notice or an exam paper stays on your device.
